Training Program
Career Overview:
A phlebotomist is a healthcare professional who plays an essential role in patient care by collecting blood specimens for laboratory testing. Phlebotomists work closely with patients and healthcare teams to ensure accurate specimen collection while providing a compassionate and positive patient experience.
Phlebotomists assist with all clinical duties related to specimen collection, including but not limited to: verifying patient information, performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection, preparing and processing specimens for laboratory testing, following safety and infection prevention protocols, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting efficient laboratory operations.
Paid training and Career Advancement:
At Dartmouth Health locations, qualified candidates are provided paid-on-the-job training to develop the knowledge and skills needed to perform all the required duties of a phlebotomist.
Successful phlebotomists are then eligible to sit for the American Society Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification exam. ASCP is a nationally recognized certifying organization for laboratory professionals. Earning the PBT credential demonstrates competency in phlebotomy practices and supports continued professional growth, opening opportunities

Interested candidates should visit the Dartmouth Health Careers site. Note that this is an on-the-job training program, and opportunities are dependent upon current needs. Once you have accessed the Careers site, enter “phlebotomist” in the ‘Search by Keyword’ field, and then click the search button to search for available positions. If there is a position in your desired location, you may submit an application. Note that the position will not specify that it is a trainee position, but through the initial screening conversations, training and certification needs will be discussed.
