Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program Overview
Do you enjoy problem-solving, helping people, providing exceptional service, and working with a team? If so, training to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician is the first step on a progressive career ladder at Dartmouth Health. As a Technician, you can quickly grow to become an Advanced Technician, a Pharmacy Lead, Trainer or Supervisor. Pharmacy Technicians are detail-oriented, enjoy a fast-paced environment and are committed to helping patients access the medications they need.
The Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Program is designed to give trainees the knowledge and skills they need to embark upon a pharmacy career at Dartmouth Health. Opportunities are currently available in Lebanon, NH, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Inpatient Pharmacy, the Dartmouth Cancer Center Pharmacy, and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Retail Pharmacy at Centerra.
During the initial 10-week training program, trainees earn college credits and an hourly training wage. At the end of the program, trainees sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam, and begin their 2,000-hour US Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship at Dartmouth Health.
This full-time, paid apprenticeship includes remote classroom instruction, independent study, and in-person on-the-job training. The initial 10-week training program is delivered through live remote classes, taught by experienced faculty. Individual assistance is available to all trainees during independent study. On-the-job training starts in the second week of the program and is coordinated by dedicated trainers in the pharmacy.
Trainees complete these required courses during the 10-week training program: Medical Terminology, Communications, Pharmacology, Pharmacy Technician Practices, Pharmacy Calculations, Pharmacy Lab, Pharmacy Practicum, and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Exam Prep.
We encourage anyone interested in learning more about the program to apply. This is the first step to starting your career as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Apprenticeship Spotlight
Meet Chelsea
“When I began the PT program I was working full time as a baker. I had no medical background and while I loved baking I was looking for something more. I wanted a job that would require me to think and be challenged every day. I certainly have that in the outpatient pharmacy! This apprenticeship helped me become more professional, changed the way I communicate and the way I present myself. It changed my future in such a positive way. On the last day of the classroom training I was asked if I was nervous about starting work and I shared that I wasn’t nervous at all because all of the job shadowing we did gave me the confidence to start. The on-the-job training was incredibly beneficial and the shadowing made me feel like I was already part of the team.”
